Five Years of Missing Grandma

It’s been five years today since my grandma died. She was the grandparent I knew best and although I saw less of her the last ten years of her life due to moving across the country, I still miss her.

Grandma used to send me news articles. She would find something in the newspaper that she thought I’d like, she would cut it out, and send it to me. I remember one article was about origami cranes. I like origami. I certainly can’t claim to be an expert on it, but I do like it and she remembered that.

In honor of my grandma, I’m going to do something a little different with my writing for Camp NaNoWriMo. In addition to doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month, I am also doing Kristen Joy’s Kindle-In-30 Challenge which started yesterday. You can use the same thing for both, but the goal of Camp is to write a lot of words and the goal of Kindle-In-30 is to complete a messy first draft, so what I’m doing is working on a second companion story to my Camp book. In this case, that story is about Todd’s nieces meeting their brother. I thought for today I would write a scene were Presley introduces her twin brother, Fletcher, to their grandmother. Their grandmother, Todd’s mother, has been in a coma for a long time and so the introduction would be a bitter sweet kind of thing, but seeing as I am missing my grandma right now, it seems appropriate to give them a bittersweet scene with theirs.

Do you still have your grandparents? If so, what do you like best about them? If not, what do you miss most about them?
