Dialogue Prompt – Purple Hands

As you can tell I like The Fake Redhead‘s prompts. This one is funny. There really isn’t a lot to it and not much to say about what is there, but I will try and see what I can say.

Writing Prompt

I guess I will start with the color. Although it’s probably not relevant, purple is a color often associated with royalty. This has to do with the rarity of the material used to make a dye to make cloth and other things purple.

Dialogue Prompt – Sarcasm

This prompt from The Fake Redhead is a definitely one that fits under the betrayal or trust category I mentioned previously. As the first person says, it’s hard to know if this is sarcasm or not. It’s only one word, but depending on how it’s said it can convey many things.

Writing Prompt

Since the first character says they don’t know if it’s sarcasm or not, I would assume there is no eye rolling and that the word was probably said pretty straight. I also get the idea that there probably is a long history between these two. They aren’t necessarily close, but I do think they’ve known each other for quite some time.

Writing Prompt – Retired Special Ops

I don’t even know what to think of this one. It definitely seems like the character in this prompt is an anti-hero. As I have never been in the military, I don’t know what it’s like to return to civilian life. I am pretty sure that being bored with life is not an excuse to try and see who is a better killer between you and a hired hitman.

Writing Prompt

Personally, I haven’t the slightest clue how to access the dark web. I know it exists and that at least some of the stuff on there is stuff that probably is bad, but that’s really all I know.

Writing Prompt – Villain’s Love

One of the first questions that comes to mind is wondering what exactly is the villains goal. Obviously using the love interest against the hero is not uncommon, but what is the villain trying to accomplish. It’s left open to the writer, but I am curious as to what it is in the mind of the person who created the prompt.

Writing Prompt

Something thing that caught my attention about this one is that the main character is neither the hero nor the villain. They are the love interest. Can you imagine if the superhero stories we know and love were told exclusively from the point of view of the love interest. How would that change them?

Writing Prompt – Younger Sister

Imagine living in a world where superheroes and supervillains are real. Have you got that image in your head? Okay, good. Now, think about your siblings, especially if they are younger. If you don’t have any think about your friends and the relationship they have with their siblings, especially younger ones.

Writing Prompt

Now imagine that something happened to that younger sibling you or your friend cares so much about, that they disappeared without a trace and you don’t know what happened to them or how to find them.

That’s how this villain appears to be reacting. The villain, whose gender is not identified any more than the superhero’s gender is, lost his little sister. We aren’t given much info about that, such as how long she’s been missing, how old she was at the time, or even how old she is now.

Dialogue Prompt – Kissing You

This one makes me laugh. It’s an altogether very serious subject depending on what actually happened, but it still makes me laugh.

Considering how little is here, there really isn’t a lot that we know about this situation. We don’t know the gender of either person talking nor do we know their age or how long they have known each other or what their relationship is outside of this exchange beyond the fact that it almost definitely does not include kissing as a normal event.

Writing Prompt

The first thing that I can infer from this, other than kissing is not normal between these two, is that the speaker does not have a clear memory of what happened. That leads to wondering why. Is it something normal like being over tired or over indulging in alcohol or even some sort of drug? Or is it something much less normal like a spell or a fantasy type drug?

Writing Prompt – Relief

Angst prompts are scary. That is what I have decided after looking for one to share with you. The first one I am sharing is from Tomi Adeyemi. Unlike the last one by her from a couple days ago, which wasn’t exactly sweet, but it didn’t show evidence that the PoV character had given up, this one does show someone who has given up. I cannot imagine what would lead to this level of being ready for it all to end, which is exactly what makes it so interesting.

Writing Prompt

The prompt speaks of chaos. It doesn’t say how long this has been going on. Is this a short term situation or one that has just started, but still seems like it’s endless? Or is it something that the character has been dealing with for weeks, months, or even years.

Nameberry Hunter

We previously discussed the baby name website Nameberry. One element of that site that we did not cover was their random name generator. I love the name they gave it: Namehunter. It gives the impression that you are a hunter searching for just the right name and when you find it, you are going to snag it for your own.

This particular random name generator has a rather more colorful approach to the task than most. And when I say colorful, I do mean colorful. The first step in the process is to pick if you want boys names, girls names, or both and each of these options has a colorful background to click on.

Dialogue Prompt – I Knew You’d Live

There are some prompts that I call “betrayal or trust.” The idea behind these is that someone whom one of the people previously believed they could trust has done something that looks like betrayal and they have to decide whether or not to still trust that person and their actions. The other person may or may not have actually betrayed them and that is part of it as well. One of the things I like about them is that depending on how you interpret them, they can turn into extremely different things.

Writing Prompt

With this particular prompt, you have one person stabbing the other. That’s definitely not a friendly action and it’s understandable that the person who was stabbed would not be happy.

Writing Prompt – Late

This next prompt comes from New York Times bestselling author, Tomi Adeyemi. I don’t know much about her, but I definitely think that she makes some thought provoking writing prompts. If you want to check out her whole arsenal of writing prompts, she’s posted them on Pinterest. There aren’t as many as some of the other prompt writers I’ve found, but she does have about 40 of them there. They seem to lean more on the horror, gore, and intrigue end of the spectrum, so if that’s something that interests you, check them out.

In this particular one, you have a male character of unknown age coming upon a female character implied to be a child or possibly a teen. You know right away that something is not normal about this girl, seeing as she’s surrounded by bodies.
