Writing Prompt – The Crown Tattoo

The newest prompt writer that I have found and would like to share with you is Shauna Philp. She’s quite creative and has a lot of prompts to share. As of writing this there are almost 700 prompts on her site, so definitely check those out if you would like to find some inspiration.

Although it’s not a writing prompt before I start on the writing prompt, I would like to point out a post she wrote about 10 Signs You’re a Writer. It’s something I think is well written on a topic that some people question. Are you a writer? What makes you a writer? When do you become one? I agree with her conclusion here and if you have questions about whether or not you are a writer, you should check it out.

Now, on to the writing prompt. With seers involved this clearly is a fantasy setting and with peasants involved, you are either talking a long time ago or a very underdeveloped nation in modern times. Of course given that it’s fantasy, nothing says it has to be earth either, so you could have a modern-type setting which still has peasants. It’s all in how you handle it.

I’ve seen several prompts that involve tattoos, but this is the first one I’ve seen that is handled this way. Usually it has to do with soulmates, so this is an interesting step in a different direction. Now the obvious interpretation of a crown dictating the character’s life is that the character will somehow become the ruler, but it doesn’t have to be that obvious. It could mean that they are meant to die for the ruler, protecting them or that they are meant to take down the ruler and create a different type of government. It could even mean something really off beat such as they will be the one who creates or fixes the crown itself.

There are a lot of different things you can do here, so have fun. How would you handle the crown tattoo?
